Project Thanatos Explained .

 

In the final scenario of the first Resident Evil Outbreak game , a new tyrant was revealed to have been created in secrecy by Greg Mueller a rogue Umbrella scientist at the Raccoon university , he was very smart but crazy scientist .

He named this tyrant Thanatos after the Greek god of death , after creating Thanatos , Greg was well aware that umbrella would send mercenaries to retrieve a sample of his work , so he released Thanatos from his sleep and ordered tyrant to eliminate them all and bring body of a soldier to experiment on include all mercenaries we know .

Even with combined forces of the UBCS ( Umbrella Service Secret ) and survivors at the university , no firepower was strong enough to prominently take him down after Nikolai attempted to retrieve a sample of it's T-blood , the Thanatos tyrant immediately went on a rampage taking down the mercenaries surrounding him and only Nikolai was able to sneak away from , it's presence when the survivors came face to face with Thanatos their most efficient way to temporarily take them down was to use the hanging electrical wires and shock the tyrant when it gets close enough to the wires , only problem is that it's not easy trying to get this tyrant to stand below the electrical wires in the first floor passage b location and it gets much more difficult to surmounted it because the tyrant can not give you much time to escape him also without hesitation he attacked you many times consequently .

If the player chooses to play through this scenario in the hard or very hard difficulty options because now the cable controls in passage b won't work and you have to use the electrical wires from the secret room in the same location and the hanging wires are in a spot where Thanatos won't likely be standing below , it's mean you have the possibility to guide him slowly on different ways that give you lot of chance to beat him . 

Because Thanatos will approach you slightly to the left since that is where the cable controls are at and you have to be standing next to him to activate it , it's doesn't help that your mpc partners are very unpredictable as they literally choose whether they should listen to your commands or not depend on your own orders to them .

But if you have enough firepower by the time you reach this part then try to stun lock him below the hanging wires , you will probably want to unlock infinity mode so you have unlimited ammo because the hard and especially very hard difficulty modes will have less ammunition for your weapons and since enemies move and react faster in these difficulties you will be wasting a lot of ammo along the way so by the time you reach this Thanatos fight , you're gonna need to be very lucky to shock him at this exact location see on the picture carefully below the Thanatos should be here at this point like you see below .

After finally managing to knock him out the survivors took the T-blood sample from it's back , then they use the reagent device on the third floor to combine the T-blood with the p bass and v poison which would create the daylight vaccine ; the daylight vaccine can not only wipe off the infection from those infected with the T-virus but it can also work as an Achilles heel for Thanatos as his weakness .

And in the final confrontation against this tyrant , the survivors can find an ampule shooter load it up with the daylight vaccine and get a direct shot on Thanatos to permanently take him down for good the hard part is reaching the exact location where you find the ample shooter and that happens to be in the final fight against Thanatos , the crazy thing about this tyrant is that unlike the previous tyrants we've seen so far , this one does not go down easily , he does not approach you in the slow pace all the time .

He will sprint towards you , he can leap from great distances and he can even one shot kill you even if you are in fine condition , the only way this tyrant was truly injured was when Nikolai set explosives inside the Raccoon University and had the building collapse on top of Thanatos but as you know the creature still survive .

This forced the creature to mutate into his final form since it was severely injured to the point of even losing an arm and now it became even stronger and it also takes advantage of its incredible leaps to land on top of the survivors and it even gained a new ability allowing it to stretch its arm at a very long distance similar to the Bender snatch creatures of code veronica , especially when you compare the fact that both creatures are missing an arm so was the Thanatos tyrant project a success ? ( answer on the comment )

I would say yes he is after all he proved to be a super soldier that would carry out orders without mindlessly killing his creator and even when the survivors found a rocket launcher and used it against them it only managed to temporarily knock it down , every tyrant we had seen up to this point would easily be destroyed with the use of a rocket launcher , so seeing that this would not work against Thanatos would only prove that it ; in fact was the true successful tyrant and even though you can defeat him with additional firepower like simple gun pistol or pomp rifle or magnum for inflict biggest damage .

In the final fight Kevin and Jim's bad ending reveals something interesting so in the end only the daylight vaccine or the destruction of Raccoon city proved to be the only ways of destroying the creature , now we know how the Thanatos tyrant performed .

Let's take look at its alternate designs as you can see for his first form they were almost going to give him a very similar style to Mr x from Resident Evil 2 or the two models only instead of a trench coat he'd be wearing a black formidable business suit which honestly looks great in my opinion ; he looks more menacing especially since his hands are leather black in these alternate designs .

I love the inclusion of the hat , the developers of Resident Evil 2 remake must have likely as well since they gave Mr x a similar design with that hat inclusion ; there's also a version where it could have been wearing boxers instead of a black speed so i'm a bit clueless as to why the developers chose to have Thanatos was only wearing that black speed when these designs looked vastly superior ! ( answer on the comment below ) .

But perhaps we could have gotten both , they could have had him wearing the black suit but include torn versions for battle damage and by the time he's in his final form , he could rip though his suit and now could appear this way it's unique design for Thanatos like something special and unique for this incredible boss  .

A beta version of both forms of Thanatos have been revealed and it appears that in the first form was meant to be more slim and even has more details in his appearance mostly with his face ; the final form version includes both arms only one of them is still fully mutated and looks big than the other one and i think it's more stranger for attacking .

I wonder what made them go with the severed arm version especially since it has an even closer resemblance to the Bender snatch because of his missing arm it is unknown exactly who the test subject was to create this Thanatos tyrant but it sure made for one of the best bosses to deal with in the Resident Evil Outbreak series once it goes after the survivors it'll chase after them like Mr x and the Nemesis and just like them it'll even break though a wall giving you a hell of a worthy surprise also can surprising you at any moment .

The real question in my mind is , if the Stars Alpha team had to deal with it in the underground Umbrella lab would they have succeeded in destroying it ?  ( if you want answer this question on the comment below with your own opinion ) .
